Roadworks ahead for Interconnector

by Jim Forrest on 6 January, 2019

The message below from National Grid gives an explanation and timetable for upcoming roadworks at the foot of Stubbington Lane:

“As discussed at the last meeting of the CLG we are soon scheduled to carry out the digging of the trenches at Monks Hill Beach which will eventually hold the cables for IFA2 next year. To do this, we need to install ducts for the cables under Stubbington Lane and Crofton Avenue and will need to close parts of these roads for this work.

“First, we’ll close a section of Crofton Avenue where it meets Stubbington Lane, commencing on 28th January 2019. During this time, we’ll put in place a diversion down Sea Lane to maintain access to nearby homes and Monks Hill beach car park. Whilst the construction activities along Crofton Avenue will only take one week, in order to better manage the traffic on Stubbington Lane the diversion will be in place until 24th February 2019.
From 4th February, we’ll then close one lane at a time of Stubbington Lane for a three-week period. During this time, temporary traffic lights will be in place.

“We’ve worked closely with Hampshire County Council, which manages local roads, to understand and manage any potential impacts. We have therefore scheduled as much of the work as possible to fall outside of the school term period.”
